Toyota officially launched its new all-electric mid-size coupe SUV, the bZ5, with prices ranging from 129,800 to 159,800 yuan (approx. 18,000–22,150 USD). Positioned as the brand’s third EV following the bZ3 and bZ4X, the bZ5 is built on the e-TNGA platform and comes equipped with BYD’s lithium iron phosphate Blade Battery.

550 Pro139,800~19,600
550 Pro Smart Edition159,800~22,000
630 Pro159,800~22,000

The bZ5 has four variants: 550 Joy, 550 Pro, 550 Pro Smart Edition, and 630 Pro. The two battery options—65.28 kWh and 73.984 kWh—provide CLTC-rated driving ranges of 550 km and 630 km, respectively. All models feature a front-mounted TZ200XS003 motor from Fudi Power, delivering 200 kW of peak power and 330 Nm of torque. The vehicle supports 90 kW fast charging, with a 30% to 80% recharge time of just 27 minutes.

Design-wise, the bZ5 retains elements of Toyota’s Crossover EV Concept. The front showcases a distinctive “hammerhead shark” shape with C-shaped headlights and a full-width LED light strip. The side profile adopts a coupe-like sloping roofline, hidden door handles, and 21-inch alloy wheels. The rear features a continuous taillight bar with an inverted C-shaped layout. Dimensions come in at 4780 mm (L) × 1866 mm (W) × 1510 mm (H), with a 2880 mm wheelbase—larger overall than the bZ4X.

Inside, the bZ5 embraces a minimalist and tech-forward design. A 15.6-inch floating infotainment screen and a fully digital instrument cluster dominate the dashboard, paired with an electronic rotary gear selector. The cabin includes gesture control, voice interaction, and smartphone integration. All models have nine SRS airbags, including side curtain airbags extending from A-pillars to C-pillars and one between the front seats.

The intelligent driving suite features the Toyota Pilot, powered by Momenta 5.0, which includes over 30 advanced driver assistance functions. The system uses up to 33 sensing components—including a LiDAR unit in higher trims—and is driven by a 544 TOPS computing platform, enabling urban NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) across varied driving scenarios.

Other features include a panoramic glass roof (1.44 m²), 256-colour ambient lighting, JBL 10-speaker sound system, acoustic glass, and front seats with a fully reclinable “one-touch lie-flat” function. Four “Nap Modes” are available to customise in-cabin rest settings.

Buyers placing orders in June will benefit from a package of eight perks, including a 10,000 yuan (approx. 1,385 USD) trade-in subsidy, a choice of a 5,600 yuan (approx. 775 USD) sports kit or six free maintenance sessions.

The bZ5 enters a crowded mid-size electric SUV market dominated by the Tesla Model Y. Other dominating models include the Leapmotor C10 (starting at 128,800 yuan) and Deepal S07 (starting at 159,900 yuan).
