Xpeng CEO orders rival Xiaomi YU7 as G7 SUV set for July 3 launch
Xpeng CEO, He Xiaopeng, has placed an order for a Xiaomi YU7 Pro just days before Xpeng’s upcoming G7 SUV launch. He shared the purchase on Weibo, noting his selected configuration included 25 speakers, 20-inch halo wheels, and a smart onboard refrigerator. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun responded publicly, thanking Him for the support and pledging to speed up production. Lei also added, “Wishing the Xpeng G7 launch this Thursday every success!” Lei has previously purchased a Li L6 publicly after the launch of the SU7 sedan, showing support for his automotive peers.

The exchange comes as Xiaomi’s YU7 sedan secured over 240,000 lock-in orders within 18 hours of its launch on June 28. Estimated delivery times range from 33 to 56 weeks, depending on the model. His order drew attention to its timing and was seen as a gesture of goodwill between two major EV rivals.

Xpeng has confirmed that the G7 will launch on July 3. The SUV is positioned as a mid-size electric model equipped with L3-grade autonomous driving computing power. It will be available in Max and Ultra versions, with a pre-sale starting price of 235,800 yuan (approximately 32,400 USD). Both variants come standard with a 702 km CLTC range, built on an 800V high-voltage platform with 5C ultra-fast charging capability. The vehicle measures 4,892 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,655 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.

The G7 Max is powered by two Nvidia Orin-X chips, while the Ultra model features three proprietary Turing AI chips designed to enhance autonomous driving functionality and cabin intelligence. All models feature CDC adaptive dampers with hydraulic components and are equipped with four seats that offer ventilation, heating, massage, and full electric adjustment. Additional features include a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, an 8-inch rear passenger screen, a 9-inch streaming rearview mirror, and fold-out tray tables with magnetic panels.

One of the G7’s core technologies is the “Chasing Light Panoramic HUD”, co-developed with Huawei. The augmented-reality head-up display projects an 87-inch image at a 1920×1080 resolution. It supports lane-level navigation with real-time vehicle data, including speed, battery range, and the status of the driving assistance system. Power is generated by a single electric motor with an output of 218 kW and a top speed of 202 km/h, supported by a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack that delivers the full 702 km rated range. The Xpeng G7 made its debut on 11 June 2025.
