Spy shots of Luxeed‘s upcoming large SUV, set to be named the R9, have been published by Chinese media Sohu. According to HIMA’s product roadmap, this full-size luxury SUV is scheduled for an official unveiling in November.
The vehicle is currently in early testing phases, with images revealing Luxeed’s signature family design language in the headlights. The R9 features a large front hood with different connection points to the front grille compared to the smaller R7 model. As a “9-series” member of the Luxeed family, the new model is expected to incorporate the “Starlight” decorative elements to enhance its appeal.
Design details include a distinctive indentation at the B-pillar, suggesting an extended wheelbase and body length. The R9 also features large rear windows and a profile reminiscent of a station wagon.

Inside, the R9 maintains Luxeed’s established design language with a small steering wheel, large floating central display, and all-digital instrument panel similar to the R7. The powertrain is expected to offer both extended-range and pure electric versions according to Sohu.

According to Chinese media Sina, this new flagship SUV comes at a challenging time for Luxeed, which has struggled to gain traction in the competitive Chinese EV market. Despite high-profile technology from its partnership with Huawei, the brand has faced production delays, quality control issues, and disappointing sales numbers. June figures show Luxeed’s monthly sales hovering below 2,500 units, significantly underperforming compared to similar vehicles from Huawei’s other automotive partnerships.

Sina attributes Luxeed’s difficulties to the complex dynamics between Chery Automobile and Huawei. Unlike some of Huawei’s other automotive partners who have made their Huawei-powered brands top strategic priorities, Chery’s already strong market performance may have resulted in less urgency to prioritise Luxeed.
