2026 Luxeed R7 SUV from Huawei and Chery launched in China at 34,800 USD
The Luxeed R7 fastback crossover from Chery and Huawei was launched in China with a starting price of 249,800 yuan (34,850 USD). It offers EREV and BEV powertrain options. The 4WD variant of the R7 SUV boasts a peak power of 512 hp.
The Luxeed R7 initially entered the Chinese market in September 2024. It became the brand’s bestseller with 73,239 units delivered so far, according to China EV DataTracker. Chery is responsible for the development and production of the Luxeed R7, while Huawei takes care of this model’s sales via its HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) network. On August 25, HIMA launched the updated Luxeed R7 crossover.
Luxeed R7 exterior
The 2026 model year Luxeed R7 fastback crossover has a redesigned front end with a more aggressive bumper and a redesigned emblem with “Luxeed” inscription. The R7’s front bumper has an active air intake. Dimensions of the Luxeed R7 are 4982/1981/1650 mm with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. This Chinese car is 47 mm longer than the BMW X6.
Thanks to a sleek roofline and a slanted bonnet, the Luxeed R7 boasts a drag coefficient of 0.219 Cd. It is slightly lower than the Tesla Model Y’s number. A lower drag coefficient translates into quieter rides with less energy consumption on highways. From the back, the Luxeed R7 adopts a single taillight unit and a ducktail spoiler. The 2026 model is available for purchase in nine body color variants, including the new Aurora Green shade.
Luxeed R7 interior
The interior of the 2026 model year Luxeed R7 got a 16.1-inch floating screen in the center console. It became 12.9% larger, compared to the previous model. The new monitor boasts a resolution of 3K. It is powered by the HuaweiOS operating system. Another highlight of the R7 is an oval-shaped three-spoke steering wheel with a gear shifter mounted behind. The car’s instrument panel has a diameter of 12.3 inches. The updated R7 also has a new purple interior shade.
The Luxeed R7 adopts 21 Huawei Sound speakers with a power of 2,080 W. Other highlights of the car include two 50 W wireless phone charging pads in the center tunnel and the microphone-free Karaoke function. Front seats of the Luxeed R7 support heating, ventilation, and massage functions. They can also be power adjusted in 18 ways. Both front seats support zero-gravity mode.
The second-row seats’ backrest supports stepless electric adjustment from 27 degrees to 37 degrees. There are two storage compartments for the rear passengers. The 2026 model year R7 has a 2.1-square-meter sunroof with a sunshade. The Luxeed fastback SUV also offers an 8.2-liter built-in refrigerator. The trunk volume of this SUV reaches 837 liters. The BEV variant of the R7 offers an additional front trunk for 52 liters.
Luxeed R7 powertrain & prices
The entry-level Luxeed R7 with EREV powertrain has a single e-motor in the rear axle for 227 kW (304 hp). It has a 37 kWh LFP for 201 km of WLTC electric range. The second trim of the Luxeed R7 EREV has a 53.4 kWh ternary NMC battery that supplies power to the same electric motor. This variant can run up to 284 km under WLTC conditions in EV mode. The top-trim R7 EREV offers a dual-motor 4WD for 382 kW (512 hp). This car has a 1.5-liter range extender under the hood.
The BEV entry-level variant of the Luxeed R7 comes standard with a 215 kW (288 hp) electric motor in the rear axle. It is powered by an 82 kWh ternary NMC pack for 667 km of CLTC range. The second trim level offers a larger 100 kWh battery for 802 km of range. The top-trim Luxeed R7 BEV has two e-motors for 365 kW (489 hp). It can run up to 736 km on a single charge.
The EREV and the BEV trim levels of the Luxeed R7 are priced equally. It is a rare practice among Chinese automakers, as smaller battery usage allows for reducing the car’s cost.
