On September 15, Great Wall Motor (GWM) officially launched its Haval Big Dog Plus SUV, offering five trims with a price range of 135,800 to 183,800 yuan (19,100 to 25,800 USD), available in PHEV and ICE variants. As a modified model of the current second-generation Haval Big Dog, the Haval Big Dog Plus features an upgraded exterior and is powered by 1.5T and 2.0T engines.

The front fascia adopts a new grille design that is semi-closed and embedded with a larger “HAVAL” brand logo that can be lit up, while retaining the round headlights on either side.

In the rear, the “GWM” logo replaces the current “HAVAL” logo.

Side view.

From the side, the wheel eyebrows are now decorated with rivets.

At the same time, the body dimensions remain unchanged: 4705/1908/1780 mm (l/w/h), with a 2810 mm wheelbase. The apparoch angle is 24°, departure angle is 30°, and maximum wading depth is 560 mm.

Exterior paint options.

Consumers can choose from five exterior paints.

ICE powertrain.

The ICE variant is powered by either a 1.5T or 2.0T engine. The 1.5T engine (model GW4B15L) outputs a maximum power of 135 kW (181 hp) and a peak torque of 275 Nm, mated to a 7-speed DCT. The 2.0T engine (model GW4N20A) outputs 175 kW (235 hp) and 385 Nm, mated to a 9-speed DCT. The WLTC fuel consumption per 100 km is 7.64 and 7.95L/8.58L, respectively.

PHEV powertrain.

The PHEV variant is powered by a 1.5T engine (model GW4B15M) and dual electric motors, mated to a 2-speed DHT. The engine outputs 115 kW (154 hp) and 243 Nm. The front and rear motors output 70 kW (94 hp)/160 Nm and 150 kW (201 hp)/350 Nm, respectively.

Two lithium iron phosphate battery capacities are offered: 18.74 kWh and 27.54 kWh, providing a corresponding CLTC pure electric range of 105 km and 150 km. The WLTC comprehensive power consumption per 100 km is 1.65L and 1.13L, respectively.

Cockpit.

Inside, the cockpit retains the current layout. There are a new two-spoke flat bottom steering wheel, a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel, and a 14.6-inch central control screen. A row of physical buttons below the central control screen still remains.

The operating system is supported by GWM’s latest Coffee OS 3.0. Additionally, the official claimed the voice command response speed has improved to 250 ms.

Furthermore, there are 38 storage spaces and six airbags throughout the interior. The trunk volume ranges from 474L to 1,362L after folding down the rear seats.
