Two Xpeng Aeroht eVTOLs collided and crashed at the Changchun Air Show rehearsal in China on September 16, according to Guancha. At least one passenger was taken to the hospital with injuries. The cause of the accident remained unclear as Xpeng Aeroht hasn’t made an official announcement yet.

Xpeng Aeroht is the Xpeng flying car unit founded in 2013. It focuses on the development of modular flying cars, tilt-rotor flying cars, eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing), and eVTOL flying cars. Last year, Xpeng Aeroht made headlines after its Land Aircraft Carrier (LAC) made the first public flight, receiving over 2,000 orders with a price tag of around 2 million yuan (280,940 USD). The LAC got a special flight permit in the UAE on September 11, 2025.

Xpeng eVTOL crash

Xpeng Aeroht participates in various Air Shows around the world. The company’s next public event will be the Changchun Air Show 2025, which starts on September 19. However, two eVTOLs from Xpeng got into an incident that occurred during the rehearsal flight on September 16. The source familiar with the matter reported that one passenger was taken to the hospital with injuries. His life is not in danger.

The eVTOLs can operate in autonomous and manually controlled modes. Incidents could be caused by equipment failure or a route planning mistake. However, it could also be a human error. This incident highlights the complexity of the low-altitude operating environment and serves as a reminder of the necessity of safety efforts. It is worth noting that Xpeng Aeroht didn’t share official information about this incident.

Xpeng Aeroht was somehow lucky that this collision occurred during the rehearsal flight, so no visitors were injured. We will remind you that the Xpeng Aeroht eVTOL supports 5 – 6 flights on a full charge. It has a 270-degree panoramic cockpit. The eVTOL could be controlled with a single lever. It operates at altitudes of 300 – 500 meters.
