Geely Starray EM-i starts production in Indonesia for global markets
Geely announced that production of the Geely Starray EM-i (known in China as the Galaxy Starship 7) has officially started at its KD assembly plant in Purwakarta, Indonesia, as reported by IT-Home. The milestone took place at the end of September 2025, marking the first time the plug-in hybrid SUV had entered overseas mass production.
According to Geely, the Starray EM-i will be launched in multiple global markets following its initial debut in Australia. The rollout will extend to nearly 20 countries by the end of the year, including Indonesia, Thailand, South Africa, Mexico, and Italy, covering regions across Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and Africa.
The Starray EM-i/ Galaxy Starship 7 was first launched in China in December 2024, with official prices starting at 109,800 yuan (15,400 USD). Built on Geely’s GEA platform, the SUV measures 4,740 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,685 mm in height, with a 2,755 mm wheelbase. Inside, it features the Flyme Auto system developed by Meizu, enabling integration between vehicle, smartphone, and cloud services. The model offers optional equipment such as a head-up display, 16-speaker sound system, heated and ventilated seats, and an active safety suite that includes side curtain airbags and a sentry monitoring function.
Power comes from Geely’s Thor EM-i hybrid system, pairing a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine with an electric motor through an 11-in-1 E-DHT transmission. The engine delivers a maximum output of 82 kW and a thermal efficiency of 46.5%, while the electric motor produces up to 160 kW and 262 Nm. The system achieves 0–100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and a fuel consumption of 3.75 L/100 km (CLTC cycle). With a full battery and fuel tank, the total range reaches 1,420 km.
Production of other Geely models, including the Geely EX5 SUV (Galaxy E5 in China) and Geely Geome Xingyuan compact hatchback, will also begin at the Purwakarta plant in the coming months, further expanding the brand’s regional manufacturing footprint.
