GWM Tank 400 PHEV presales start at 43,500 USD, 0–100 km/h in 4.3 seconds
GWM’s Tank brand has officially begun presales for the updated Tank 400 mid-size SUV, offering two variants: the Hi4-T Intelligent Edition at 309,800 yuan (43,500 USD) and the Hi4-Z Intelligent Edition at 329,800 yuan (46,300 USD). The 2025 model-year update focuses on exterior and interior refinements, as well as advanced driver-assistance features.
The Tank 400 retains its armoured, mechanical design language but adds visual updates. The front features a narrow hexagonal grille with two horizontal chrome bars and polygonal headlamps. The new front bumper is more squared-off, featuring high-power LED fog lamps that reach 31.6 meters. Black trim accents and a far-infrared night vision system are included.
The side profile remains essentially unchanged, with exposed rivets on the fender flares. The Hi4-T version has retractable side steps, while the Hi4-Z features fixed steps. Dimensions are 4,964 mm long, 1,970 mm wide, and 1,905 mm tall, with a 2,850 mm wheelbase. The rear retains an externally mounted spare wheel with a quick-release cover and polygonal taillights. Exterior colours include Phantom Black, Wing Silver, Nebula Grey, and Dunhuang Purple.

Inside, the dashboard features a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, HUD, and Coffee OS with Coffee GPT voice interaction. The Hi4-T and Hi4-Z both use Nappa perforated leather seats with heating and ventilation, while front seats offer eight-point massage. Rear passengers have a 15.6-inch entertainment screen, a 5.4-litre refrigerator, and manual sunshades.
The Hi4-T Intelligent Edition combines a 2.0T engine with a single electric motor, producing 310 kW and 750 N·m, 0–100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, and a 105 km WLTC electric range with 103 kW fast charging. The Hi4-Z has a 2.0T engine with dual P2/P4 motors, a total output of 635 kW, 1,195 N·m, a 0–100 km/h time of 4.3 seconds, and a 200 km WLTC electric range with 163 kW fast charging.
Both models feature the third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra system, including roof-mounted Hesai ATX LiDAR, side cameras, and city/highway navigation-on-autopilot functions.
The updated Tank 400 competes with mid-size plug-in hybrid SUVs such as BYD‘s FCB Bao 5 (239,800 yuan / 33,700 USD) and Jetour Cross G700 (329,900 yuan/ 46,300 USD). Recent data shows the Tank 400 Hi4-T sold 2,805 units in September 2025.
