The 2026 M9 remains a seven-seat, mid-to-large MPV powered by BYD’s fifth-generation DM plug-in hybrid system. The lineup now includes four trims, down from five previously. Two versions offer 100 km of CLTC-rated pure electric range, while the long-range models increase from 180 km to 218 km. The larger “Blade” battery also reduces fuel consumption in hybrid mode to 4.9–5.0 L/100 km, a 0.4 L decrease compared to before. Combined fuel and electric range reaches up to 1,163 km.

The model retains the large “dragon-scale” grille and through-type headlight bar, featuring chrome detailing. The top variant adds a roof-mounted lidar unit. Side features include dual power sliding doors, optional projection sensors, Bluetooth and NFC keys, and privacy glass for the rear. Dimensions remain 5,145 mm long, 1,970 mm wide, and 1,805 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,045 mm.

The rear continues to use BYD’s signature “knot” taillight design with full-width illumination. New exterior colours include Ink Bamboo Green, Glazed Purple-Gold, and Moon Shadow Black-Gold, alongside four returning options.

Inside, the 2026 M9 offers Sandalwood Brown–Beige and Far Mountain Grey interiors with 128-colour ambient lighting, a fragrance system, and PM2.5 air filtration (optional). The 15.6-inch central display is powered by the DiLink 150 system, which supports DeepSeek AI voice control, “sentinel mode,” karaoke without microphones, and cross-brand phone connectivity. A 12.3-inch instrument screen, 26-inch W-HUD (top trim), and an optional 12.3-inch passenger entertainment screen are available.

Physical controls remain below the touchscreen, and a 50W wireless charging pad is standard. A 12- or 24-speaker DiSound Dolby Atmos system is included, depending on the trim, with a 28-speaker option and a detachable outdoor speaker.

The top trim features BYD’s God’s Eye B system, which includes lidar, along with city navigation assist and enhanced autonomous parking capabilities. Mid trims retain God’s Eye C, supporting highway driving assist.

The cabin follows a 2+2+3 layout. Both front seats feature heating, ventilation, memory, and massage functions. Second-row captain seats feature leg rests, folding tables, ventilation, and integrated audio in the headrests. The third row can be folded electrically and adjusted to various backrest angles. The cargo volume measures 470 litres, expandable to 2,036 litres.

Higher trims also include a temperature-controlled refrigerator, a dual-section panoramic sunroof, a 15.6-inch rear entertainment screen, and multi-zone climate control outlets.

The 1.5T plug-in hybrid setup delivers 115 kW from the engine and 200 kW from the electric motor, with 0–100 km/h acceleration times of 8.1 to 8.5 seconds. The model utilises BYD’s DiSus-C intelligent damping suspension, which incorporates predictive road scanning, to minimise body motion and enhance stability. The system includes an “anti-motion sickness” algorithm. All variants come with TBC tyre burst control and VTOL external power output capability.

In China’s 200,000–300,000 yuan (28,000–42,000 USD) plug-in MPV segment, the BYD M9 competes with the Buick GL8 Land Business Edition PHEV (249,900–289,900 yuan / 35,000–40,600 USD) and Maxus MIFA 9 PHEV (259,900–349,900 yuan / 36,600–49,300 USD). Compared to these models, the M9 offers a longer electric range, lower hybrid fuel consumption, and more advanced driver assistance options. In September, BYD sold 1,467 units of the M9, ranking 15th among large MPVs in China.
