Xiaomi sets 2027 Europe launch as president test-drives SU7 Ultra across Germany
Xiaomi Group President and Partner Lu Weibing has completed a two-day test drive of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra in Germany as part of the company’s preparations for entering the European electric vehicle market by 2027.
According to Lu’s social media post on November 6, the test drive covered approximately 800 kilometres across two routes, from Berlin to Hamburg and from Hamburg to Frankfurt. During the trip, Lu also evaluated Germany’s public charging infrastructure, describing it as “well-developed overall.” He noted that the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra attracted attention at charging stations, with some onlookers recognising the model by name.
Lu stated that this was his first time driving on Germany’s autobahn, where certain sections have no speed limit. He reported that the SU7 Ultra reached a speed of 260 km/h while maintaining stability throughout the drive. He added that Xiaomi’s automotive team would continue its efforts to prepare for the brand’s European expansion in 2027.
In a previous media briefing held in August, Lu said the Xiaomi YU7 series had “continued the strong market momentum of the SU7 lineup,” and that the company expected its automotive division to achieve profitability by the second half of 2026. He added that, despite narrowing its quarterly operating loss to 300 million yuan (approximately 41.8 million USD), Xiaomi’s car division had accumulated more than 30 billion yuan (approximately 4.18 billion USD) in investment and remained several years away from full profitability.
The SU7 Ultra, which previously completed road testing in Munich and Nürburgring performance trials, features a 93.7 kWh CATL Qilin II battery pack operating at 897 volts, with a CLTC-rated range of 630 km. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.98 seconds and reach a top speed of 350 km/h.
Separately, Xiaomi began European road testing of the SU7 Ultra in July 2025, when the model became the first Xiaomi vehicle to receive full regulatory approval for public road use in Europe. A production-spec unit with the license plate “M SU7088E” was registered in Munich, Germany, marking the start of official on-road validation. During that period, Xiaomi President Lu Weibing personally test-drove the car in Munich, noting that the customised plate symbolically combined “M” for Munich and “Mi” for Xiaomi.
Xiaomi plans to enter the official European market in 2027, following the expected domestic profitability milestone in late 2026. The recent German road trip is part of the company’s broader effort to validate its vehicles under European conditions ahead of that timeline.
