BYD held a launch event in Barcelona on November 19 to introduce the Atto 2 DM‑i (known in China as Yuan UP), the company’s first plug‑in hybrid under the Atto 2 lineup, alongside the long-range battery electric Atto 2 Comfort. The company stated that the DM‑i system provides a WLTP-certified pure electric range of up to 90 km and a combined range of approximately 1,020 km when both the fuel tank and battery are used.

The plug-in hybrid differs from the EV version in several ways. The front end features a larger grille to enhance engine cooling and a redesigned badge. It is available in an exclusive “Midnight Blue” colour. The vehicle measures about 4.3 meters in length and rides on 17-inch alloy wheels. LED headlights, a full-width rear light bar, and aerodynamic styling distinguish it from the standard EV.

Inside, the Atto 2 DM‑i offers a 12.8-inch touchscreen, vegan leather seating, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and storage solutions, including a dedicated glasses compartment and wireless phone charging. The boot holds 425 litres, expanding to 1,335 litres with the rear seats folded. The vehicle also includes Vehicle-to-Load functionality, allowing it to supply up to 3.3 kW of power to external devices.

The hybrid system comes in two configurations: Active, producing 122 kW (166 PS) with a 7.8 kWh battery for approximately 40 km of electric range and around 930 km total combined range, and Boost, producing 156 kW (212 PS) with an 18 kWh battery for up to 90 km EV range and roughly 1,020 km total. The Boost version reaches a top speed of 180 km/h and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. Reported combined WLTP fuel consumption is as low as 1.8 L/100 km.

Chinese and European media noted that BYD already markets several models in Europe, including the Seal, Han sedan, Tang SUV, and Atto 3 hatchback. With the addition of the Atto 2 DM‑i and Atto 2 Comfort, BYD now offers a broader selection of compact crossovers, sedans, and SUVs with hybrid and battery electric powertrains. BYD’s passenger car business is present in 33 European countries, with plans to operate up to 1,000 retail locations by the end of 2025 to support the rollout of its new models.
