BYD produced 70,000 cars at its manufacturing plant in Rayong Province, Thailand. This facility boasts an annual production volume of 150,000 cars. This summer, Thai-made BYD electric cars were shipped to Europe to avoid additional tariffs from the EU.

The Rayong-based BYD CKD plant began operations in July 2024. In November 2024, the automaker shared that it assembled 10,000 vehicles in Thailand. This facility produced 60,000 units in the next twelve months. BYD reached the milestone of the 70,000th vehicle rolling off the production line on November 27. The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i plug-in hybrid SUV became the anniversary car (Chinese name is the Song Plus DM-i). It was handed over to a local employee.

CKD (Completely Knocked Down) refers to a method where a vehicle is shipped in parts and assembled in the destination country. Automakers use CKD kits to reduce import tariffs and support local manufacturing.

The BYD Thailand factory is the first overseas plant fully owned by the world’s biggest EV maker. Its area reaches 960,000 square meters. This facility currently assembles five models: the BYD Atto 3 (Yuan Plus), the BYD Dolphin, the BYD Seal, the BYD Seal 05 DM-i, and the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i. In October 2025, BYD’s cumulative deliveries reached 100,000 vehicles in Thailand.

Interestingly, this plant produces cars not only for the EV-friendly Thai market. It also ships vehicles to Europe and Southeast Asia. In August 2025, BYD Rayong facility exported 900 units of BYD Dolphin to Germany, Belgium, and the UK via BYD Zhengzhou vessel. This way, BYD avoids additional tariffs imposed by the European Union. We will remind you that the Shenzhen-originated company faces a 20.7% additional tariff on top of the existing 10% customs duty.
