Ora 5 EV crossover from GWM launched in China for 14,160 USD
The Ora 5 electric crossover from GWM was launched in China with a starting price of 99,800 yuan (14,160 USD) with no limited-time discounts applied. It is a 4.4-meter five-seat urban driver with an e-motor for 150 kW (201 hp) and a range of up to 580 km. Later, it will be offered with HEV, PHEV, and ICE powertrain variants.
Ora was initially launched in China as a battery-electric brand under Great Wall Motor in 2018. The state-owned automaker aimed to amplify its competition in the NEV segment. However, Ora had a bumpy road in China with a failed Ole Sharing car-sharing service and the launch of two unprofitable models.
According to China EV DataTracker, Ora delivered 27,958 units from January to November 2025 in China. The Year-Over-Year decrease reached 38.71%. Ora hadn’t launched all-new cars for three years.

On December 16, the brand’s representatives announced the reboot of the Ora brand. In the future, it will sell not only battery electric cars but also hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and petrol-powered vehicles. The Ora 5 crossover became the first vehicle in the new chapter of the struggling brand.
More about GWM’s Ora 5
The Ora 5 could be easily confused with the Ora Funky Cat (03 / Good Cat) electric hatchback that sells overseas. These cars share similar “cute” styling with curvy body lines and circular headlights. However, the Ora 5 is a bigger car, positioned as an urban crossover. Its dimensions are 4471/1833/1641 mm with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm.

The Ora 5’s interior adopts a large 15.6-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster. The car’s infotainment system is powered by the Coffee OS 3 system, similar to some high-end GWM models such as the Tank 400 and the Tank 500. It supports voice interaction. The Ora 5 also has a two-spoke steering wheel, a wireless phone charging pad, and a block of physical controls. The gear shifter sits on the steering column.
Powertrain & prices
On December 16, the Ora 5 entered China with only the BEV powertrain variant available. It adopts a single electric motor for 150 kW (201 hp). It is powered by two SVOLT (GWM’s subsidiary) LFP batteries for 45.3 and 58.3 kWh. The entry-level model can run up to 480 km on a single charge. And a bigger pack is good for 580 km of range under CLTC conditions.

In the future, the Ora 5 will be available for purchase with PHEV, HEV, and ICE powertrain variants. The hybrid variant of this car will adopt a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with an e-motor and a small battery with no external charging function. The system’s combined power output is 179 kW (240 hp). The ICE variant will adopt a 1.5-liter engine for 130 kW (174 hp) with a 7DCT. Information about the PHEV version has yet to come.

The Ora 5 BEV became available for purchase in China in five trim levels. The top-trim variants are equipped with LiDAR sensors. Prices of the Ora 5 variants are as follows:
