The Renault’s largest HEV crossover, Filante, jointly developed with Geely, was revealed in South Korea. It boasts a hybrid system for 247 hp and a starting price of 43,319,000 Korean won (29,390 USD). The new model will start deliveries in March.

Geely acquired 34.02% of the shares in Renault Korea Motors in May 2022. In June 2024, Renault and Geely revealed their first jointly developed car called Grand Koleos. It stands on the Geely Monjaro (Xingyue L) crossover, which is underpinned by the CMA architecture.  The Grand Koleos rapidly became the most popular car sold by Renault Korea domestically.

On January 13, 2026, Renault Korea revealed the second model based on the CMA modular architecture. It is the Renault Filante, a large crossover.

More about Renault Filante

The Renault Filante is a large SUV with dimensions of 4915/1890/1635 mm. It became the largest car in the French automaker’s lineup. The Filante adopts a low beltline, sporty bumpers, a frameless grille, and sharp LED headlights. The new model has five body shades: Satin Universe White, Satin Forest Black, Cloud Pearl, Urban Gray, and Metallic Black.

In contrast with the Grand Koleos, the Filante SUV isn’t a twin model of some Geely-branded car. However, its interior has a lot in common with the mentioned Geely Monjair. The center console adopts three 12.3-inch screens. One of these displays is dedicated to the front passenger. The Filante boasts a 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display.

According to Renault Korea officials, the Filante has an AI-based voice assistant, active noise cancellation, and an assisted driving package with an emergency steering function. Despite a length of 4.9 meters, the Filante has only two rows of seats. Its trunk offers a capacity of 633 liters (2,050 liters with the rear seats folded).

Chassis and powertrain

As mentioned, the Renault Filante stands on Geely’s CMA modular architecture. It underpins such cars as the Volvo CX40, the Geely Monjaro, and the Lynk & Co 01. It became the largest model underpinned by this chassis.

The Renault Filante has a peak power output of 247 hp

The Renault Filante adopts a traditional hybrid powertrain with a 1.5-liter engine and two electric motors producing 247 hp. It has a small 1.64 kWh battery on board that couldn’t be charged externally. However, Renault claimed this battery will allow the Filante to drive on urban roads in electric mode for up to 75%. An average fuel consumption of this large HEV is around 6.6 liters per 100 km.

Price and overseas prospects

The Renault Filante was revealed in South Korea with a launch slated for March. This SUV will be manufactured at the company’s Busan plant. The starting price of this vehicle is 43,319,000 Korean won (29,390 USD) with tax benefits applied.

The Renault Filante crossover

Similar to the Grand Koleos crossover, the Filante is positioned as a global model. However, the French automaker previously shared that this SUV was designed for regions outside Europe. The Middle East will likely become the first market for the Filante after South Korea.

Renault and Geely are gradually drawing closer together in many areas. The companies are jointly developing powertrains through the Horse Powertrain joint venture, developing a joint production project in Brazil, and launching new models. It’s possible that in the future, the two sides will form a new alliance that will become a significant force on the global stage.
