SAIC’s MG brand has become the first Chinese car brand to achieve sales of over one million vehicles cumulatively in Europe and the UK.

MG, originally a British automaker, was acquired by Nanjing Automotive Corporation in 2005. Then in 2007, SAIC acquired Nanjing Automotive Corporation.

In 2025, MG sold more than 300,000 vehicles in the European and UK markets (with more than 85,000 vehicles sold in the UK), a year-on-year increase of nearly 30%, maintaining its position as the top-selling Chinese automotive brand in Europe for the 11th consecutive year. It also ranked 16th in the overall European and UK markets, making it the only Chinese brand to enter the top 20.

Specifically, in 2025, MG sold 137,000 units of its Hybrid+ series, a year-on-year increase of 300%; as well as 46,000 pure electric vehicles.

Additionally, in the first half of 2025, MG was already the best-selling Chinese car brand in Europe with 153,000 units sold, surpassing Tesla for the first time in half-year sales, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA). Furthermore, MG’s 18.6% year-on-year growth outperformed the overall European market (which saw a 0.9% year-on-year decline).

Looking back, in 2021, MG sold more than 50,000 vehicles in Europe. Then in 2022, Europe became MG’s first overseas market where it sold more than 100,000 vehicles, followed by 200,000 vehicles sold in 2023. To date, MG’s cumulative sales in Italy, Spain, and France have all exceeded 100,000 units. As MG’s largest market, the brand sold more than 370,000 units in the UK cumulatively, with pure electric vehicle sales exceeding 100,000 units.

So far this year in January, MG delivered nearly 26,000 vehicles in Europe, representing a year-on-year increase of approximately 15%.
