BYD unveils official images of its Great Tang D-segment flagship SUV, set for March 5 release
BYD has officially unveiled the first official images of its D-segment flagship SUV, the BYD Great Tang (or Datang in Chinese), confirming its release for March 5. Lu Tian, General Manager of BYD Dynasty Network Sales Division, announced today and shared the official visuals of the new vehicle on social media.
Prior reports, based on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) declaration catalogue, have provided a glimpse into Great Tang’s specifications. The SUV’s length measures from 5263 mm to 5302 mm, width 1999 mm, and height between 1790 mm and 1800 mm. Its wheelbase measures 3130 mm.
The Great Tang is expected to reach top speeds of 240 km/h or 250 km/h. Curb weights range from 2640 kg to 2970 kg, with gross weights from 3245 kg to 3575 kg. It will ride on tyres sized 265/45R21, 255/50R20, or 275/45R20, featuring a front track of 1715 mm and a rear track of 1725 mm. The vehicle offers a 7-seat configuration. Powering the vehicle will be a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery.

The BYD Great Tang comes standard with a panoramic sunroof. The vehicle’s height is influenced by its suspension choice: 1790 mm with air suspension and 1800 mm with a non-air suspension setup. Opting for the rear bumper decorative elements extends the vehicle’s length to 5302 mm, corresponding to front and rear overhangs of 995 mm and 1177 mm.

For its pure electric variant, the Great Tang will leverage BYD’s advanced Super e-platform, featuring a full-domain 1000V high-voltage architecture. This setup, combined with a 10C flash charging battery and a 1000A charging current, is projected to deliver a charging power of up to 1000 kW, promising ultra-fast replenishment for its battery.

As we reported, BYD is initiating the large-scale deployment of its Megawatt Flash Charging Piles. The Great Tang will be one of the models capable of using megawatt fast-charging technology.
