The very first Spy Shots of the 2017 BMW 5-Series testing in China, showing the grille, headlights, and bumper design. Headlights merge into the grille just like on the 3-Series. The G30 BMW 5 will debut in the fall and launch on international markets in early 2017.

It will be a rear-wheel drive car based on a shortened variant of the platform that also underpins the BMW 7-Series. It will be about 100 kilo lighter than the outgoing car thanks to the use of lightweight materials. That might seem a lot but 100 kilo is really just one passenger plus a big bag.

The test car on the photos is the standard short-wheelbase made-in-Germany variant which will be available as an import in China. In late 2017 BMW will also launch the new 5Li, a China-only long-wheelbase version that will be made locally at the BMW-Brilliance joint venture.
