Bingo. Here we have the first spy shot of the ass of the new Volkswagen Santana for the Chinese car market. The new Santana will debut on the Guangzhou Auto Show in November and will be launched early next year. The ancient old Santana, in production since 1984, will however still not die, Volkswagen has confirmed it will continue! The new Santana will therefore likely be called ‘New Santana’, the Germans are very creative with names, just like they were with the ‘New Bora’ earlier on.
The new Volkswagen Santana is basically the same car as the new Volkswagen Jetta, which will be launched on the Guangzhou show as well. The ancient old Jetta MKII however will not continue. The new Santana/Jetta are based on a stretched version of the new Polo PQ25 platform that also underpins the Skoda Rapid and Seat Toledo. The Skoda Rapid will be made in China as well, it will be launched on the China car market in early 2013. Engines for both cars are the same aain: 1.4 with 89bhp or a 1.6 with 109bhp, mated to a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. The new Santana will be made by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture, the new Jetta by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture.
