The new SUV is Foday’s biggest car so far, it will be positioned above the current Foday Explorer 6. Power will come from a Mitsubishi-sourced 2.4 liter petrol engine with 136hp or a 2.5 liter turbodiesel with 109hp. Rear-wheel drive will be standard and four-wheel drive optional. Cheap ‘n big SUV’s like this are still very popular in China, especially in second and third tier cities where size and price matters most.

On the verge of bankruptcy more than once, it has managed to stay afloat by supplying pickup and SUV bodies to a number of larger auto enterprises. China’s entrenched regional protectionism also plays no small part.
