The Dongfeng Fengguang 580 SUV has been launched on the Chinese car market. Price starts at 72.900 yuan and ends at 99.999 yuan, no kidding. The Fengguang 580 debuted in April on the Beijing Auto Show. It has become a solid looking compact SUV with a big shiny grille and tiny tiny wheels.
The Fengguang 580 will be powered by a 1.5 liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 150hp, mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.
Size: 4680/1845/1715, and wheelbase is 2780.
The Fengguang 580 is manufactured by Dongfeng Xiaokang, a commercial-vehicle division under Dongfeng Motor that makes a range of mini vans, mini MPV’s, mini pickup trucks, and small trucks. The Fengguang 580 is their first passenger-car SUV.
The interior looks great for the segment, but it is possibly a tad too gray. This car too is aimed at young car buyers and they do like a bit more color. The touch screen is large and the infotainment system comes with full smartphone integration, USB and HDMI connectivity, satellite navigation, a wifi hot spot, and permanent 4G internet.
Dials are conventional but do have some spacey blue.
The six-speed manual and electronic parking brake.
Enough space in the back for three. The Fengguang 580 is however a seven-seater, so there is…
… a two-seat pop-up bench in the back, which leaves…
… very little room for the bags.
The lights are red, the lights are large, and the lights are connected by a shiny strip. Black bumper in a bit bland. And look how small that rear wheel is, swimming in the arch. Far too narrow! It has to handle a lot of car. Better slow down in corners!
Grille is good, with a big Dongfeng logo in the middle, but the overall design is just a tad too bland again.
The 1.5 turbo. The engine line is called Euro Driver. This 1.5 turbo is called the Euro-SFG turbo.
Single pipe on the left side, hiding neatly under the bumper. Note badge on the right. The T of 1.5T is painted red. Nice. Racy.
