This is the new MG One, a trendy SUV for the famous Chinese-British brand. MG says the One will be sold globally, and besides in China it will also be produced in India. The One debuts a new design language for MG’s SUV range, with a more aggressive and sporty styling. The blue car on the first photo is a top-spec model, with duel tone painting, an all-black grille, and racy wheels with red brake calipers.
The exhaust pipes appear to be very fake, they are just bumper decoration really. Well, MG isn’t the only brand doing that but it still looks a bit odd, especially when it is so obvious as it is here.
This is a base model, with one tone paint, smaller and less fancy wheels, and a grille with silver colored bars. The MG One stands on SAIC’s new Sigma platform, which can handle petrol, PHEV, and EV power trains. However, initially the MG One will only come as a petrol car, powered by the same old 1.5 turbo that powers so many of SAIC’s cars. In the One, it delivers 178 hp, good for a 195 km/h top speed.
MG released some teaser pics as well, with the top-spec model in MG’s signature orange color. The One is rated as a 5-seat car, sized 4579/1866/1601, with a 2670 millimeter wheelbase.
The rear end looks kind of racy, if you can ignore the fake pipes. It has a diffuser-style bumper and a race car style light in the roof spoiler. The One will be equipped with semi-autonomous driving technology, including blind-spot detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-change assist. It also gets a the latest SAIC infotainment system, with a large touch screen and the i-Smart interface.
The MG One will be officially unveiled on a media event on July 30. We will be watching…
