On December 17, the Livan RL9 was officially launched in China with a starting price of 109,900 yuan – 129,900 ($15,750 – $18,600) after subsidy. The Livan RL9 is an electric midsize SUV based on the GBRC (Global Battery Rapid Change) Crystal architecture and is available in four trims. According to the automaker, the SUV will have a 4-year/150,000 km warranty, while the battery pack has an 8-year/150,000 km warranty.

The recently launched RL9 is one of three vehicles the automaker displayed at the Chongqing Auto Show in June this year.

The manufacturer, Livan Auto, is a joint venture established by Geely and Lifan in January 2022. The company started out with battery-swapping technology and aims to build 5000 battery-swap stations in 100 main cities by 2025. In addition to battery swap service, it also focuses on decommissioned battery storage utilization and end-of-life battery recycling.

Livan Automobile launched the GBRC crystal architecture. The chassis-based battery replacement technology supports 1-minute fast battery replacement, 40-minute fast charging, 7 kW home charging pile, and 2 kW slow charging. The GBRC crystal structure is equipped with an upgradeable capsule battery and a Livan super heat pump system with an ultra-wide working range of temperatures between -30°C and 43°C.

Users of the Livan RL9 can choose from different battery packages, including battery subscription service, which costs 898 yuan ($128.70) for the 66.57kWh battery pack; installments which cost 898 yuan ($128.70), and a battery buyout plan. The buyout price of the 66.57kWh battery pack is 70,000 yuan ($10,030), while the 52.56kWh battery pack costs 60,000 yuan ($8,600).

For dimensions, the SUV has a 2825 mm-long wheelbase and a 4845 mm length. Additionally, the RL9 adopts the popular through-type front LED light design and split headlights. A concave rib line above the front and rear fenders on the side of the car match the concave rib line design under the door.

Inside, the car has a three-row seat layout with either six or 7 seats, depending on the trim. The seats are configured in 2+2+2 and 2+2+3 formats for the six and seven-seaters, respectively. Meanwhile, luggage space is up to 2360 liters.

The interior, including the steering wheel, has a blue and black color combo. For infotainment, there is a 12.3 -inch instrument panel, a 12.3 -inch floating central control screen, and an 8-inch head-up display system. However, the most eye-catching design feature is the hidden air-conditioner outlet.

Other features of the Livan RL9 include wireless mobile phone charging, panoramic sunroof, and an electric tailgate.

For power, the SUV is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor capable of churning out 150 kW and 310 Nm of torque. The capacity of the ternary lithium battery is 52.56/ 66.57 kWh, with a battery life of 380/470 (CLTC).

It is worth mentioning that, thanks to the GBRC crystal architecture of Livan RL9, the vehicle supports battery replacement in 60 seconds.

In the future, the vehicle’s battery can be continuously upgraded, with specifications such as 80+ kWh /600+ km battery life, 100+ kWh /700+ km battery life, etc., which can be adapted to all Livan models.
