The new BYD e2 has arrived at dealerships in China, hinting that sales would soon begin. BYD’s remodeled electric hatchback was launched on April 6 with a price range of 102,800 yuan ($14,950) – 109,800 yuan ($15,900). The EV has a range of 405 km (CLTC), and first customers get 2 years of free internet connection and a lifetime warranty for the powertrain.

Initially launched in September 2019 as a vehicle for taxi services, the new e2 is built on the e-platform 3.0 and falls into the BYD Ocean series. In 2020, BYD managed to sell 19,616 models, and in 2021, the automaker shipped 34,265 copies. However, BYD halted the production of the e2 in 2022.

BYD e2 Exterior

For 2023, the e2 returns with some design changes. First, the exterior has been redesigned, and there is a closed grille with BYD’s logo taking center stage. Also, the new generation measures 4260/1760/1530 mm with a 2610 mm wheelbase, making it 20 mm longer than the previous model.

BYD e2 Interior

The interior is where BYD makes the most significant changes. There is an 8.8-inch instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch central screen that can be rotated and used horizontally and vertically. The e2 also gets an NFC card, a Bluetooth key, and a heat pump as standard. These features, along with the three-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, bring it closer to other vehicles in BYD’s Ocean Series lineup.

The car adopts a five-seat layout, and legroom/headroom is pretty okay. However, rear-seat passengers are left without any AC outlets.

BYD e2 Power/Performance

The 2023 e2 provides three driving modes: energy-saving, sports, and snow modes. It is also equipped with a cruise control system which comes in handy for long-distance high-speed driving.

In terms of power, the 2023 e2 comes with an AC permanent magnet synchronous motor that churns out 70kW and 180 Nm. This powers the car to an official 0-50 km/h acceleration time of 4.9s and a maximum speed of 130 km/h. The EV uses a set of lithium-iron phosphate batteries with a capacity of 43.2kWh and has a pure electric cruising range of 405 km (CLTC).
