The first mass-production Seal DM-i has rolled off the production line of the new BYD factory in Zhengzhou, Henan. It was put into operation in April 2023, with a planned annual capacity of 400,000 vehicles. It took BYD 17 months to build this plant. Nowadays, it is in its first phase. After the third phase, its production capacity will reach 1 million units. Currently, BYD assembles there three models: BYD Song Plus SUV, BYD Song Pro SUV and the BYD Seal DM-i.

According to official information, Zhengzhou plant produces 700-800 units per day. It means BYD assembles approximately 30 units per hour. Moreover, BYD will soon increase the production volume as it plans to hire 5,450 more people.

As we can see in the picture, the first mass-production BYD Seal DM-i is finished in a purple press-color. Previously, a car with the same body shade debuted at the Shanghai Auto 2023 (under Chaser 07 name). Later, it was shown in official pictures, finished in the same purple color. So, BYD clearly thinks that people will fall in love with shade.

More information on Seal DM-i

The Seal DM-i was previously known as Chaser 07 or Destoryer 07. However, in terms of exterior design, it appeared to be really similar to the Seal EV sedan. It has the same headlights, a taillight unit and a slick body shape. So, it wasn’t a surprise that BYD decided to rename this vehicle into Seal DM-i.

Speaking of numbers, the Seal DM-i’s dimensions are  4980/1890/1495 mm with a wheelbase of 2900 mm. As for the power output, it is represented by a 1.5-liter ICE and an electric motor. Their total power has yet to be revealed. Its electric range has two options: for 121 km and 200 km. The price tag of the Seal DM-i is unknown. But it will be disclosed soon, as its debut is scheduled for this month.
