In China, Great Wall Motors’ newly re-branded Haval H5s are starting to arrive at dealerships throughout the country. The new car is expected to officially launch in August and is available in four exterior colors, namely white, black, grey, and purple.

The new Haval H5 is built on Great Wall Motors‘s pickup platform. The front face has an off-road vibe with a wide grille that is decorated with two thick chrome-plated bars, square headlights, and ribs on the bonnet.

As Great Wall Motors’ largest SUV, the dimensions of the Haval H5 are 5190/1905/1835mm, the wheelbase is 3140mm, and the wading depth is as high as 600mm. From the side, the car looks slender due to its length and runs on multi-spoke wheels. The roof luggage racks also further enhance its off-road atmosphere. The wide C-pillar splits the rear door quarter from the rear door glass.

Inside, the interior is covered in a large area of plastic and decorated with chrome-plated trims. Both the instrument panel and the 12.3-inch central control screen adopt the floating style. The steering wheel is round. Below the central control screen is a hexagonal air-conditioning outlet that can be controlled with physical buttons.

The interior adopts a 5-seater layout in which the seats are wrapped in brown leather and have stitchings. The rear seats can be adjusted at multiple angles of 27°/31°. After the second-row seats are folded down, the trunk volume can reach up to 2116L. In addition, Haval H5 has 37 storage spaces throughout the car.

Furthermore, after the rear seats are folded down, the space can be transformed into a 2-meter bed, perfect for an outdoor trip coupled with the 0.8 square meter panoramic sunroof. Great Wall Motors also claimed that the space can accommodate up to 27 suitcases.

Haval H5 comes standard with BorgWarner’s four-wheel drive system. The powertrain is equipped with a GW4C20B 2.0T gasoline engine or a GW4D20M 2.0T diesel engine, mated to a 6-speed manual. The gasoline engine is offered in 145 kW or 165 kW while the diesel engine is only offered in 122 kW.
