Production version BYD Song L

As we can see from these ‘spy shots’, the production version of the BYD Song L undergoes some high-temperature tests near Turpan, Xinjiang region, China. It is a well-known Chinese city, surrounded by deserts and mountains. It is also one of the hottest places in the world, with the highest temperature of 80 degrees Celsius. So, the Song L definitely faces some challenges there.

Speaking about the Song L, it is covered with heavy camouflage. But we can still underline that its exterior design got some major differences from the concept, debuted at the Shanghai Auto. At first, the production version of this fastback SUV has real side view mirrors instead of cameras. It is a strange move since cameras are now legal in China. Moreover, cameras will reduce drag coefficient, and, consequently, increase range. However, BYD decided to stick with traditional physical mirrors.

The front end of the Song L was also reworked. As we can see, its front bumper is less aggressive. It also has a smaller spoiler. As for the headlights, they maintained their shape. But LED sections inside them look different. From the rear, we can also notice that the BYD Song L has a cleaner look, without a sporty diffuser.

On the other hand, the body shape of the production version BYD Song L remained the same. It has the same sloped hood line, slanted D-pillars, retractable door handles, a low belt line, and a single taillight unit. The dimensions of the BYD Song L weren’t disclosed. But we do know that in terms of sizing, this vehicle stays close to the Denza N7 fastback SUV. We will remind you that Denza N7 measures at 4860/1935/1602 mm with a wheelbase of 2940 mm.

More about the BYD Song L

As mentioned, the BYD Song L debuted at the Shanghai Auto in April this year. According to BYD, it stays on the e-platform 3.0 architecture that underpins most of modern BYD vehicles. It also has a DiSus-A air suspension system and 4WD. It hints that the Song L’s powertrain will also be similar to the Denza N7. We will remind you that its all-electric version’s combined power output reaches 530 hp. This powertrain is also similar to the BYD Seal EV.

Speaking about the price range of the BYD Song L, it has yet to be revealed. However, the Song L aims to compete with the Tesla Model Y. It means that its price tag should be about of 300,000 yuan (41,915 USD). Speaking about the market launch, the BYD Song L should hit the Chinese market in Q4 this year. Moreover, the production version model can make its debut at the Chengdu Auto Show in late August. We will keep an eye on the Song L, so stay tuned!
