Chery’s all-electric Exeed Sterra ES sedan with CATL battery and 720 km range officially unveiled in China

This is the Exeed Sterra ES pure electric sedan, the brand’s first electric vehicle. Pre-sales is expected to start later this month and launch in the fourth quarter of this year. The international name of this vehicle is Exlantix ES. The car was declared by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) earlier this month. Exeed is a high-end brand under Chery.

The Sterra ES is positioned as a medium-to-large pure electric sedan and is the first model based on the E0X all-electric platform. Its coefficient of drag is as low as 0.205Cd. An optional radar is also available.

According to the declared information, the Sterra ES measures 4945/1978/1480(1467)mm, and the wheelbase is 3000mm. The car will be available in four powertrain configurations for consumers to choose from:

  • single 230 kW motor coupled with CATL’s lithium iron manganese phosphate battery
  • single 185 kW motor coupled with BYD’s Blade battery
  • single 230 kW motor coupled with CATL’s lithium iron phosphate battery
  • dual motors 123 kW + 230 kW, coupled with CATL’s ternary lithium + iron manganese phosphate lithium batteries

Both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive will be supported in addition to an 800V high-voltage fast-charging platform, which can achieve 150 km of battery life with just 5 minutes of charging time. Its pure electric cruising range is as high as 720 km, power consumption per 100 km is 11.7 kWh, and 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is as short as 3.8 seconds, according to Exeed.

Coming to the cockpit, the interior is equipped with a nearly 16-inch floating central control screen, a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel, and a two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel. The operating system will come from Huawei’s Harmony OS. Other configurations include an AR-HUD digital head-up display, a Bose audio system, and wireless charging for mobile phones. Additionally, the seats are all wrapped in Nappa leather material.

Furthermore, Exeed Sterra ES will be the first model to be equipped with Chery’s LION AI system that supports functions such as voice control, facial recognition, AR navigation, advanced driving assistance, internet service, and smart home.

Based on Exeed’s product plan released earlier this year, under its Sterra series, the brand will launch two pure electric vehicles in 2023, namely, the E03 sedan and E0Y SUV; EREV models of the E03 and E0Y in addition to a model similar to the Li L8/L9 SUV in 2024; an SUV and a two-door four-seater coupe in 2025; and a large seven-seater MPV in 2026. E03 was the Sterra ES’s internal codename.
