The patent drawings show that the new car’s design differs from the style of the brand’s first model, Mecha Dragon. The public could have received the first model’s style better, so it is not surprising to see the upcoming model garnering a more traditional exterior design. The vehicle might have two LiDARs in the front. The large front grille indicates that the new SUV will not be a pure battery electric vehicle.

The new car’s side lines are relatively straight. The roofline, which extends far back, provides ample headroom for occupants. The body from the C-pillar onwards shows that the new car may offer a third row of seats. The rear of the vehicle also features a lot of straight lines. The outline of the car indicates the taillights might be penetrating. The cameras can be seen on the front fenders. They will serve the vehicle’s ADAS.

This is not the first time the patent drawings of the Chinese carmaker’s Saloon SUV have been revealed. In April last year, another set of drawings were released. Then, it was revealed that the car is 5.2 m long and has a 3.2 m wheelbase, making it a full-size SUV. The new car will feature an approximately one-meter-long cut-through center screen and should have a large AR-HUD, dual wireless charging stations, and electronic door locks.

The seat layout of the new SUV might be a 2+2+2 or 2+3+2 layout and will be equipped with headrests and legrests. The ample space between the C- and D-pillars indicates that the third row in the vehicle might be spacious. The car is rumored to serve GWM as an entry point into fuel cell vehicles (FCV), so it is expected to offer fuel-cell drive with 840 km NEDC range.

Saloon is an independent automobile company incubated by GWM. It intends to create a new “Mecha Technology” subdivision and enter the luxury all-electric vehicle market. Its first luxury BEV, Mecha Dragon, is a medium-to-large coupe with a body length of 5.2m and an appearance resembling mechanical armor. It has four LiDARs. It features fast charging with 800V/480kW power, providing 401km in 10 minutes. Equipped with front and rear permanent magnet motors (PMSM), it has a maximum power of 405kW, a maximum torque of 750N·m, and acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds. When fully charged, it offers an 802 km range.
