The Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8 PHEV SUV was spotted in China during road tests. It stands on the Super 8 concept car revealed in August. According to the report, the Bao 8 SUV adopts the DMO powertrain with a 1.5L ICE and two e-motors with a combined power output of 500 kW (680 hp).
Fang Cheng Bao is a new brand under BYD that sits between Denza and YangWang regarding pricing. Its first car is the Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5, a mid-size off-road SUV powered by a DMO powertrain. According to leaked information, the price range of the Bao 5 will be 289,800 – 349,800 yuan (39,600 – 47,800 USD). The Fang Cheng Bao model line will comprise three vehicles: Bao 3, Bao 5, and Bao 8. The Bao 8 is based on the Super 8 concept car shown in August. Now, it has been spotted in the wild in China.
Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8 spy shots
In the spy shots, the Bao 8 is covered in heavy camouflage. But we can see that its exterior styling stays in line with the Super 8 concept car revealed earlier. It has a blocky body shape with a flat windshield. It also has edgy wheel arches and a big front bumper. From the back, this off-roader features a swing-out tailgate with a spare wheel (275/55 R20) mounted on it. Its taillights have a vertical orientation.
Like the Super 8 concept car, the Bao 8 has retractable door handles. But it has a noticeable difference, which is real side view mirrors. The Fang Cheng Bao Super 8 concept was revealed with cameras instead of mirrors.
The Bao 8 is still in the testing stage. This is why the grille and headlights of this off-roader aren’t finished. According to the report, the Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8 is seemingly longer than the Bao 5. So, its body length is over 5 meters.
The powertrain of the Bao 8 will have the DMO hybrid system, similar to the Bao 5 SUV. It comprises a 1.5-liter petrol-powered ICE and two electric motors. The total power output of the system reaches 680 hp and 760 Nm. The Bao 8 will enter the Chinese market next year.
