Chery Tiggo 8 Plus Champion Edition enters market, price starts at 17,000 USD

On November 10, Chery launched its Tiggo 8 Plus Champion Edition gasoline-powered SUV in China. Consumers can choose from a total of four models, with a price range of 124,900 – 145,900 yuan (17,000 – 20,000 USD). As a facelift model, the Tiggo 8 Plus Champion Edition’s appearance and interior were upgraded while the powertrain remains unchanged.

Positioned as a mid-size SUV, the new car measures 4722/1860/1745 mm with a 2710 mm wheelbase.

Both the five- and seven-seater layouts are available that run on 19-inch multi-spoke rims.

Coming to the front, the octagonal grille has a three-dimensional virtual effect, paired with slender headlights on both sides.

The rear has a roof spoiler, a high-mounted brake light, taillights that are covered with transparent shade, and two exhaust outlets.

Inside, the interior is equipped with a dual 12.3-inch curved screen consisting of an instrument panel and a central control screen, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. There is a 50W mobile phone wireless charging pad on the center console. The vehicle operating system comes from Chery’s Lion 5.0 system, which supports Huawei Hicar and Apple Carplay screen projection, intelligent voice interaction, and mobile phone remote control.

In terms of safety, the Tiggo 8 Plus Champion Edition offers level 2 advanced driving assistance capabilities, including full-speed range adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, speed limit sign recognition and assist, and automatic emergency braking.

In addition, the front seats support ventilation and heating. The standard trunk volume is 1930L. Other configurations include an electric tailgate and ambient lighting.

Power comes from either a 1.6-liter or a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, mated to a 7-speed DCT. The 1.6-liter turbocharged engine outputs 145 kW and 290 Nm, while the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine outputs 187 kW and 390 Nm. The official 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is 7 seconds and the fuel consumption is 6.8L/100km.

Since the first launch of the Tiggo 8 in 2018, 800,000 units have been sold worldwide in more than 80 countries and regions including Brazil, Chile, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
