Update: The previous version of the article quoted sources saying the new Zeekr 001 will feature dual Orin X chips. However, Zeekr reached out to us and clarified that the reports are untrue and that the new 001 will rely on the Mobileye solution only.
Earlier this month, the new Zeekr 001 electric hatchback entry models were declared by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), available in single and dual-motor versions. The price may start from 250,000 yuan (35,000 USD) and the launch date may be in the first quarter of this year. For reference, the current model has a price range of 300,000 – 386,000 yuan (43,500 – 55,900 USD) on the Chinese market.
Last October, Lin Jinwen, vice president of Zeekr, said in an interview that the carmaker does not plan to release a new Zeekr 001 facelift model before the second half of 2024. However, recently, a Zeekr staff launched an online bet on the release timing of the new Zeekr 001 based on three time frames provided: February (Lunar Chinese New Year), the second quarter of 2024, or the second half of 2024. Judging from the Chinese MIIT declaration, the car is more likely to be launched in February or March. Additionally, Zeekr may choose to launch a more entry-level version of its new 001 ahead of time to compete with the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan.
Compared to the current model, the overall appearance of the new Zeekr 001 has not changed drastically. The front face still uses the split headlights on both sides of the engine hood. The high and low-beam light groups are arranged in a matrix and are connected by a bright black decorative panel in the middle.
Furthermore, the new Zeekr 001 will have an improved advanced driving assistance system using the Mobileye solution. An optional watchtower-designed lidar is added to the front roof while the rear is equipped with a camera, coupled with ultra-long-range lidars.
The new Zeekr 001 is 7 mm longer than the current model, with dimensions of 4977/1999/1545 (1533) mm and a 3005 mm wheelbase. Three tire specifications will be offered: 255/55R19, 255/45R21, or 265/40R22. Other features include the hidden door handles and the new dual-color body.
The powertrain is also expected to undergo major upgrades including an 800V high-voltage architecture that is the same as that of the Zeekr 001 FR. The single-motor version will be powered by a 310 kW electric motor and a ternary lithium battery pack. The top speed will be 240 km/h. The dual-motor version will be equipped with front and rear electric motors with a maximum power of 270 kW and 310 kW, respectively; and a lithium iron phosphate battery pack. Both battery packs are supplied by CATL-Geely, an EV battery manufacturing and service platform jointly founded by CATL and Zeekr.
Judging from the interior spy shot, the interior largely remains unchanged. The cockpit is beige and comes with an arc-shaped instrument panel, a three-spoke button steering wheel, and a 2.5K resolution central control screen. Furthermore, the car’s Zeekr OS operating system will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip.
