Jetour, a Chinese automaker affiliated under the Chery brand, has introduced the PRO edition of its X90 SUV, an ICE vehicle. This edition is an upgraded version of the X90 Plus edition, which was upgraded last year after its original launch in 2021. The exterior remains almost identical. However, the interior more closely resembles its PHEV counterpart, the Jetour L9, which features various design enhancements, particularly on the inside of the SUV. The X90 PRO is now available for pre-order and is scheduled to be officially launched in March.

The exterior of the Jetour X90 PRO still has a fairly modern look, characterized by a large waterfall-style grille, which enhances its large presence. The SUV has split-type headlights and integrated LED light strips, giving it a more contemporary style than Jetour’s recently introduced rugged SUV, the Jetour JMK Traveller. The side and rear profiles remain similar to the L9, with the addition of a “390TGDI” badge on the fenders to indicate its fuel-powered nature. The rear features continuous taillights and dual exhaust outlets. With dimensions measuring 4858/1925/1780 mm, the X90 PRO offers a fairly large interior and a wheelbase of 2850mm.

Inside the cabin, the Jetour X90 PRO showcases a simplified design language. The central focus is a 15.6-inch frameless touchscreen display. The interior features premium-style materials and finishes, including a crystal gear shift knob, suspended speakers, brushed wood grain accents, and piano black trims. The X90 PRO is available in both 5-seat and 7-seat configurations, with the 5-seat variant offering a large cargo space of 1634 liters.

The Jetour X90 PRO has two engine options. The first is a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power output of 197 horsepower and a peak torque of 290 Nm. The second option is a 2.0-liter TGDI engine, producing 254 horsepower and 390 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, aiming for smooth and efficient power delivery.

During the pre-order period, Jetour offers various incentives for potential buyers of the X90 PRO, including trade-in allowances, cash rebates, extended vehicle warranties for the first owner, and 5 years of free data connectivity (6GB/month). The X90 PRO is priced between 129,900 (18,000 USD) and 171,900 yuan (24,000 USD), making it a competitive option for customers looking for premium style with above-average features at a reasonable price point.

Jetour’s introduction of the X90 PRO reflects its faith that the ICE vehicle market still has room for new vehicles. With its upgraded design, advanced features, and competitive pricing, it will be interesting to compare the sales figures of the X90 PRO and its PHEV counterpart, the L9, in 2024.

  1. If the Chinese could crack open the American market (besides Geely with Volvo and Polestar), they’ll probably conquer the lower end of the American market. The average price of a new car is $48k stateside so something offering lots of value at a lower price point would be welcome. Competition helps the consumer in the end, so it would be welcomed.
