Riding on the Geely Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) electric car platform the Smart #5 will be the largest car yet from the Geely led reboot of the Daimler-Benz founded brand. From the concept sketch shots and spy shots we can see that not only is the Smart #5 the largest SUV from the brand so far but it is also boxy and quite daring in looks pushing the car away from the brand’s city origins to something with a more outdoorsy look.

In keeping with this outdoorsy look the concept at least will have a range of outdoor leisure activity accessories, which from the concept art look as if they could conceivably make it to production.

A mid-sized electric SUV the Smart #5 has short front and rear overhangs to maximize internal space in a relatively compact car. The car features a bold and muscular body design.

Geely’s SEA platform has been used in a diverse range of cars running all the way from the Smart #1 to the Lotus Eletre and will also underpin the Smart #5. For the first time in a Smart it will use 800V architecture which should give the car much improved charging times. CLTC range is expected to be over 600 km and there should be both single and a dual motor (Brabus) versions.

Art for the concept shows the front seats including a ‘queen’ type seat for the passenger complete with leg rest. From spy shots of the interior we know the production car will feature a long dual screen consisting of an infotainment unit and an entertainment screen for the passenger. This differs significantly from the current Smart setup although the steering wheel does look similar to the one in the Smart #3.

The car will have Lidar and feature Pilot Assist 3.0 which will give urban NOA (navigation on autopilot) capability. Powering the system is Nvidia Orin chip and Pilot Assist 3.0 should be launched before the end of 2024.
