Hongqi officially opened presales on July 11 of the HS7 PHEV. There are two versions available the qichuang priced 315,800 (43,500 USD) and the qiling 345,800 yuan (47,650 USD). Also announced by Hongqi at the event is that there will be PHEV versions of the HS3 and H5 cars in the future.

Visually the Hongqi HS7 PHEV is very much the same as the petrol-powered ICE version. It has the familiar large waterfall grille and split headlight design and the PHEV version is only available with 20-inch low-drag wheels with 235/55 R20 tires. The only significant difference on the exterior is the addition of a PHEV logo on the tail. The HS7 is a medium to large SUV and measures in it 4995, 1960, and 1760 mm and has a wheelbase of 2920 mm.

Inside the PHEV version of the HS7 has a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel, along with a head-up display and there is a portrait-oriented 12.6-inch central infotainment system built into the dashboard. The interior is quite traditional with a largely black look along with some metal trim. Features include a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system, heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, heated and ventilated front seats, along with three-row air conditioning vents. The car will get level-two driving assistance features. There are both six and seven-seat versions of the PHEV Hongqi HS7.

PHEV versions of the HS7 use a 2.0T engine and a two-electric motor setup. The engine has a peak power of 120 kW and can deliver up to 260 Nm of torque. Strangely the more powerful 168 kW electric motor is placed at the front while the rear axle has a 70 kW motor, the peak torque of each is 340 and 160 Nm respectively. Combined power for the system is 358 kW. Driving modes include pure electric four-wheel drive/two-wheel drive, series four-wheel drive/two-wheel drive, energy recovery four-wheel drive/two-wheel drive, and parallel four-wheel drive/two-wheel drive.

The system uses a 20.1 kWh battery pack from CATL using ternary lithium battery chemistry. CLTC all-electric range is 100 km while the combined range is 1,102 km. The PHEV Hongqi HS7 uses a 1-speed DHT hybrid transmission.

Sales of the ICE version of the Hongqi HS7 began last year. The PHEV version will likely officially launch in the next few months.
