New interior pictures have leaked of Nio’s forthcoming Onvo L60 car. And they answer the big question about whether the L60 will use the same center screen approach as the Tesla Models 3 and Y. Many will be relieved to hear that the answer is no.
In May Nio unveiled its more mass-market focused Onvo brand, with the first car the L60 opening for presales. At the time Nio did not show the interior of the L60 but since then some spy shots have emerged with the interior still quite heavily disguised. From them we could see that the L60 has a similar setup to the Tesla Models 3 and Y where there is no instrument screen and everything is on a center-mounted horizontally oriented infotainment screen.
From the new interior shots we now know that the car also has a head-up display meaning that the driver can focus more on the road and will not have to look to see important information such as the speed on the center screen.
Overall we can see that the interior has a minimalistic design. Drive selection is by a steering column-mounted stalk. There are what appear to be twin wireless mobile phone charging pads on the center console and also a twin door opening cubbyhole, which is a move away from the Nio style where it can be opened completely from either side.
Although Nio has not shown photographs of the interior, it has shared details about it along with some renderings on the company’s website. From this, we know that the center screen is 17.2 inches and has 3K resolution with thin bezels of only 5.35 mm wide making the screen-to-body ratio 91.5%. Meanwhile, the website says that the head-up display will be 13 inches. There is an additional 8-inch screen on the back of the center console for entertaining rear passengers.
Nio has also displayed various use scenarios for the interior of the Onvo L60. These include using an air mattress to convert the space into a bed. Additionally, the front seat can also be folded down. The materials for the seats themselves have been developed in house and use what Onvo calls Caretech material. Skin-friendly, non-allergenic, and antibacterial it has passed OEKO-TEX 100 maternal and infant level 1 certification.
At launch, the Onvo L60 will come with a 60.6 kWh capacity battery pack that uses the lithium iron phosphate blade battery from BYD subsidiary FinDreams. Using the 61kWh battery, as it should be correctly rounded up, single motor versions have a CLTC range of up to 555 km and dual motor versions up to 525 km. It is believed that a 90 kWh battery will be available at a later date and this will also likely use batteries sourced from BYD subsidiary FinDreams. The 61 kWh battery pack weighs 439 kg and energy consumption for the L60 is as low as 12.1 kWh/100 km. Aiding that low energy consumption figure is the drag coefficient of Cd 0.229 which for an SUV is impressive.
The L60 has dimensions of 4828, 1930, and 1616 mm (l/w/h) and the wheelbase is 2950 mm. From MIIT listing information we know that the single motor versions weigh either 1885 or 1900 kg while the dual motor versions are either 1955 or 1970 kg, depending on specifications. Single-motor versions use a 240 kW motor on the rear axle and all-wheel drive versions add a 100 kW motor to the front axle.
Pre-sale prices for the Onvo L60 are 219,900 yuan (30,200 USD) and the car will also be available with BaaS, which allows buyers to rent the battery rather than purchase it. The car will officially launch on September 10 and deliveries should begin later the same month.
