BYD has been busy introducing its DM 5.0 technology across its range of cars since the fifth-generation PHEV system debuted in May this year. One of the last major models to receive this is the Tang SUV. We’ve already seen the car testing with the new DM-i system, but now, thanks to a government regulator, we know more details and that it should be ready to launch soon.
The car will be sold as the 2025 model year BYD Tang, and it is really a facelift of the existing car. A new generation Tang is also under development and should arrive soon. It’s believed that the two versions will be sold simultaneously in the same dealerships.
None surprisingly, as a facelift, the dimensions of the car remain unchanged (see specs), and so the 2025 model year BYD Tang has a length of 4870 mm, a width of 1950 mm, a height of 1725 mm, and a 2820 mm wheelbase. Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has only one listing for the 2025 year BYD Tang DM-i, which weighs in at a rather hefty 2130 kg. The car is only available with 20-inch wheels. Both the angle of approach and departure are 22 degrees.
As expected, the Tang uses the more powerful version of the DM 5.0 technology centered around the BYD472ZQB 1.5 T engine, which has a maximum power of 115 kW. The car is also equipped with a 200 kW electric motor. There is currently no news regarding battery capacity; however, the batteries will be lithium iron phosphate blade batteries from BYD subsidiary FinDreams. The powertrain, when fitted to the 2025 model year Han, can achieve 3.8 l/100 km fuel consumption and offers a combined range of up to 1,350 km measured using CLTC. Being an SUV, the Tang will unlikely perform as well, but nonetheless, this gives some indication of what to expect.
In line with previous reports, the 2025 model year car has some slight tweaking to its appearance. Most notably, many of the areas that were previously chrome have now been blackened. As with the recently launched 2025 model year Han, the Tang surprisingly still seems to retain the Build Your Dreams logo. Previously, when testing, it was thought that this would be swapped to a BYD logo, but from the MIIT listing, it appears that this is not the case.
With the MIIT listing, we can now expect the 2025 model year BYD Tang to launch within the next few months. One point of note is that the listing does not mention anything about the car having Lidar.
