This is the very first photo of the successor of the BYD Tang SUV. The vehicle was seen in a design studio and is likely just a model. But is looks good, with sharp shapes all along and a very distinctive grille. The new Tang isn’t expected before late 2018 but we might see a first concept near the end of this year.

Time now for a closer look at the BYD Tang Ultimate Edition, the super speedy and hyper exclusive variant of the new BYD Tang SUV. The Tang Ultimate Edition is limited to 200 cars and costs 600.000 yuan (96.530 USD), but price goes down to 520.000 yuan (83.711 USD) when all green-car subsidies are included. Still a lot of money, especially since the base Tang starts at 220.000 yuan. So what do you get for all that extra cash? More power!, and then some.

The BYD Tang SUV has been launched on the Chinese car market, and it is coming with a bang. Best news first: the total combined output of the plug-in hybrid-electric power train is 505hp and 820nm, much more than announced earlier. The output makes the BYD Tang one of the most powerful SUV’s and the most powerful hybrid SUV in the world.
Price is aggressive too. Initially, BYD will sell only two limited-edition models: the Tang Limited, seen above, a dare-to-be-first edition limited to only 98 cars. It comes with red alloys, a dressed up interior and special badges. Price is set at 300.000 yuan or 48.256 USD.

Behold! This is the completely mad BYD Tang Ultimate Edition, an extremely fast hybrid SUV from China. The regular BYD Tang SUV will be launched on the Chinese car market later tonight, powered by a hybrid drivetrain that will propel the vehicle to 100 kilometer per hour in only 4.9 seconds. The Extreme Edition however will be faster still, it will reach the hundred in 4.5 seconds (!!!) due to added lightness, wings, and racy tires. Amazingly, Chinese media say the Extreme Edition will become available as a limited edition on special order, but BYD has not confirmed this yet.
