According to reports, construction of the second phase of the Xiaomi Automobile factory has already begun, with workers operating day and night to ensure a speedy completion.

Construction of the first phase of the Xiaomi factory began in April 2022, covering an area of 720,000 square meters, and was completed in June 2023.

The second phase of the factory is adjacent to the first and covers a smaller area of 531,000 square meters. It was purchased for around 842 million yuan (120 million USD), and the bidder was Xiaomi Jingxi Technology Co., Ltd.

Parts of the foundations of the second plant have already been completed, with construction beginning reportedly on the day that payment was made for the plot. According to reports on social media, construction of the plant appears to be happening at all times of the day and even at night on weekends.

It is probably safe to say that construction will be completed within a year. According to the plans, the plot will house 391,500 square meters of buildings above ground and 8,503.33 square meters underground. The maximum building height is 15.95 meters, and around 15% of the plot will be given over to green space. There will also be parking for 1,009 cars.

The second phase of the factory is likely an important element in ramping up production for Xiaomi’s second model, the MX11 SUV. It will help speed up deliveries and pave the way for new models such as the SUV and Xiaomi’s third model, reportedly a more affordable range extended EV.

The new factory is likely to also implement manufacturing techniques such as super die-casting to reduce costs and speed up production times. Xiaomi has already implemented such technologies in its first plant.

In July, Xiaomi became the seventeenth NEV producer to obtain a vehicle manufacturing license. Prior to this, Xiaomi had used BAIC’s license to produce cars.
