BYD will launch what is claimed to be the world’s fastest-charging pure electric blade battery for construction machinery on November 26th at the Bauma China construction machinery exhibition in Shanghai.

Most of the technical specifications that we currently have appear to come from a mobile phone shot of a laptop or presentation screen. These give a maximum current of 400 amps, along with a 1500 V high voltage platform. Being BYD, the battery is, of course, lithium iron phosphate and a version of the blade battery. The battery will be available in sizes of between 200 and 2500 kWh and will have a 7000 charging cycle life. The battery should be operable in ambient temperatures of -35°C  to 65°C. The battery is also expected to have a maximum charging power of 600 kW.

BYD claims it is the world’s first blade battery for construction machinery. The battery should also have cell-to-body technology for integration into construction machinery. BYD further claims that the battery is the world’s fastest charging factory for construction machinery.

It should be noted that the battery is the culmination of a partnership between BYD subsidiary FinDreams and construction machinery equipment producer XCMG. A state-owned company it is the largest construction machinery producer in China and the third largest in the world.

Cooperation between XCMG and BYD began in early 2023, and in April 2023, Xuzhou XCMG Fodi Battery Technology Co., Ltd. was established. Fodi is the Chinese name for BYD’s FinDreams. The first batteries from this partnership rolled off the production line in October last year. Presumably, these were an earlier type of blade batteries than the new battery being released this year.

BYD is not the only battery company cooperating with construction machinery producers. CATL, for example, has reached agreements with, among others, Yutong Heavy Trucks, Sany, and FAW Jiefang.
