Xiaomi’s second car was revealed as the company applied for its sales license in China. Along with the first pictures of the production version and key specs, the name was revealed: Xiaomi YU7.
Xiaomi YU7 will be manufactured in the company’s only factory in Beijing, Yizhuang, the homologation fillings to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed.
In China, every car must be approved by the local regulator before hitting the market. The MIIT publishes the list of applications that go through the monthly homologation process. Automakers are not happy about this because it reveals production version images and specs of the cars they haven’t officially launched, but we don’t mind.
Xiaomi revealed the official pictures of YU7 today, seconds after MIIT revealed its monthly list. This was a smart move, as MIIT pictures are usually not very flattering.
Xiaomi YU7 is an all-electric SUV 4,999 mm long, 1,996 mm wide, and 1,600 mm high. Its wheelbase is 3,000 mm, and its curb weight is 2,405 kg.
The model is equipped with dual electric motors, a front 220 kW and a rear 288 kW, providing a total power of 508 kW (681 hp), good for a top speed of 253 km/h. The electricity will be stored in a lithium NMC battery from CATL; the capacity hasn’t been revealed yet.
Xiaomi launched its first EV on March 28 – the Xiaomi SU7. The EV sedan starts at 215,900 yuan (29,700 USD), and in mid-November, deliveries exceeded 100,000. Xiaomi’s target is to deliver 130,000 units of SU7 by the end of the year, which is a step up from the initial target of 100,000 units.
According to China EV DataTracker, Xiaomi delivered 112,516 EVs in China in 2024 (March – November), with 21,955 units in November.
Xiaomi announced today that the YU7 will launch in June or July 2025, which is surprisingly late as homologation fillings within MIIT are usually the last step before hitting the market. CarNewsChina expects the price to be between 250,000 and 350,000 yuan (34k and 48k USD). Tesla Model Y SUV starts at 249,900 yuan (34k USD) in China.
