Chery follows BYD to release the Fly Eye on-vehicle intelligent drone system on March 18 in China
On March 6, Chery’s Exeed brand announced that its first model equipped with the Fly Eye on-vehicle intelligent drone system will officially enter the market on March 18 in China. The trailer video hinted that the system will be first installed on Exeed’s Exlantix ET medium-to-large SUV.
It is not a surprise that Chery chose the Exlantix ET as the pioneer model as the vehicle was the Car of the Year 2024 in China.
The Fly Eye system adds an intelligent hangar on the top of the vehicle, while the vehicle system will also add a control app to realize multiple functions including one-key takeoff, intelligent following, real-time image transmission, one-key filming, intelligent parking space identification and navigation, as well as one-key return to the hangar.
In addition, the drone system can be used separately through a remote control.
Just a few days ago, BYD released its Lingyuan intelligent vehicle-mounted drone system jointly developed with DJI, in which the fast-charging version is first installed on six models. The four major components of the Lingyuan system are the smart hangar, vehicle-mounted drones, roof cameras, and an application. As early as April 2024, BYD equipped its Yangwang U8 Off-road Player Edition with the battery-swap version of Lingyuan, which also became the first model in China equipped with an intelligent vehicle-mounted drone system.
It seems that BYD is popularizing this technology and more Chinese automakers such as Chery will soon follow suit to make this technology into a standard smart car feature offering, forming a mainstream trend. In the future, it is possible that vehicle-mounted drones can be used in intelligent driving, fleet monitoring, rescue, and reconnaissance scenarios, changing our perception of automotive intelligence.
