The Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan scored five stars in the Chinese C-NCAP safety and crash test. Moreover, the SU7 showed the highest performance among cars evaluated by the 2024 safety standard. The C-NCAP crash test proved that even such young NEV makers as Xiaomi can make safe vehicles.

The SU7 electric sedan is the first model under Xiaomi Auto launched in March 2024. This model rapidly became a hot seller with cumulative deliveries of 186,112 units. Nowadays, the demand for the Xiaomi SU7 is still exceeding the supply. As a result, the waiting time for this model reaches 11 months. The C-NCAP crash and safety evaluation test is organized by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC). In the C-NCAP tests, the vehicle’s safety is evaluated on a scale from 0 to 100%. And then those percentages are converted into stars to make a result more understandable. The C-NCAP includes tests for vehicle occupants, vulnerable road users, and safety assistance functions.

The C-NCAP evaluated the Xiaomi SU7 Max. It is a 4WD modification of this sedan equipped with the AT128 LiDAR sensor from Hesai and the Xiaomi Pilot Max driver’s assistance system. Its retail price is 299,900 yuan (41,345 USD) in China. Tested cars were bought anonymously at a random dealer with the agency’s money.

The Xiaomi SU7 Max scored five stars in the C-NCAP with an exact performance of 93.5%. It is the highest number among cars evaluated by the 2024 safety standard. It is 8.7% higher than the average result of other cars evaluated by C-NCAP. The SU7 Max scored the highest in the Active Safety category (95.25%). Its Automated Emergency Braking (AEB) and lighting effectiveness almost got a full score.

The Xiaomi SU7 Max got 94.31% in the occupant protection segment. What is more, the SU7 showed outstanding performance in the vulnerable road users (VRU) protection category. It scored 90.42%, which is 13.14% higher than average. This test includes pedestrians’ leg and head protection, and tests of the AEB function.

The extraordinary performance of the Xiaomi SU7 Max in the VRU protection category helped this model to get the highest overall safety score among vehicles evaluated by the 2024 C-NCAP standard.
