On April 23, the Toyota bZ7 all-electric sedan debuted at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show as the first joint venture (GAC-Toyota) car to be equipped with Huawei’s HarmonyOS cockpit system, according to the official; and developed by the “Regional-Chief Engineer” specifically for the Chinese market. The official launch is expected to occur later this year.
It is worth pointing out that the Toyota bZ7 concept car had previously appeared at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show. The version that debuted this time at the Shanghai Auto Show is the mass-production version.
Overall, the Toyota bZ7 adopts Toyota’s slender C-shaped through-type headlight design on the closed front face. Notably, the roof is equipped with a lidar, which implies advanced driving assistance capabilities (ADAS). It is also possible that the ADAS comes from the Huawei ADS advanced driving system given that Huawei already supplies the HarmonyOS cockpit system.
The rear features through-type taillights, high-mounted brake lights, and a small wing, further enhancing the dynamism of the vehicle.
From the side, the downward-sloping roof integrates into the rear wing, paired with semi-hidden door handles and 21-inch multi-spoke rims. Compared with the concept car, the digital exterior mirrors have been replaced and physical door handles were added.
Inside, ambient lighting can be seen at various spots. There is a floating central control screen, an embedded instrument panel, a three-spoke steering wheel, and wireless charging panels on the center console.
A panoramic sunroof is also present.
At this time, the powertrain specs have not been announced officially. Stay tuned!
In the first quarter, the GAC-Toyota joint venture sold 171,477 vehicles with 66,066 vehicles sold in March alone, a year-on-year increase of 19.3%. The bZ series currently has the bZ3X and bZ4X for sale on the Chinese market.
