The Yangwang U7 luxury sedan from BYD rolled off the production line in China, as this 4-motor beast prepares for deliveries in the country. This model began sales on March 27 with a starting price of 628,000 yuan (87,150 USD). It aims to rival high-end sedans from legacy brands.
The Yangwang U7 is a long-anticipated model in China. It was first revealed in January last year, and applied for a sales license the same month. In April 2024, BYD officially released the Yangwang U7 at the Beijing Auto Show. However, its pre-sales started only in November 2024. This luxury sedan was launched in late March 2025. It took BYD two more months to start volume production of this model.
BYD’s luxury brand, Yangwang, shared official photos of the first mass-produced batch of the U7 sedans rolling off the production line in China. In these pictures, we can see that BYD started assembling the all-electric variant of the U7 sedan first. This modification could be distinguished by a front bumper with a single air intake.
It seems that the first mass-produced Yangwang U7 batch is finished in white body color. They also adopt 21-inch multi-spoke rims and conventional side-view mirrors. All the cars are equipped with a LiDAR sensor on the roof. The interior is finished in a white shade.
The Yangwang U7 EV is slightly smaller than its PHEV sibling. The all-electric model has dimensions of 5265/1998/1517 mm with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. It has four electric motors with a combined peak power output of 960 kW (1,287 hp). The car speeds up to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. The top speed reaches 270 km/h. Thanks to a 135.5 kWh battery, the Yangwang U7 EV has a range of up to 720 km under CLTC conditions.
The plug-in hybrid variant of the Yangwang U7 is a slightly larger car with dimensions of 5360/2000/1515 mm and a 3,200 mm wheelbase. It has the same e-motors complemented by a 2-liter turbocharged ICE for 200 kW (268 hp). It has a 52.4 kWh battery on board, suitable for a capacity of 200 km. The mixed range is over 1,000 km, thanks to a 60-liter fuel tank.
The Yangwang U7 interior has two layouts for four and five seats. The car has a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen in the center console. There is also a large 23.6-inch front monitor in front of the front passenger and a similar-sized instrument cluster for the driver. The rear passengers have two 12.8-inch screens.
The rear wheels of the Yangwang U7 can turn 20 degrees. As a result, the car’s minimum turning radius is just 4.85 meters. The car boasts a Disus-Z suspension system. Its core feature is the adoption of magnetic suspension motors instead of traditional hydraulic dampers.
The Yangwang U7 is available for purchase in China with a price range of 628,000 – 708,000 yuan (87,150 – 98,250 USD). It is the brand’s third model, after the Yangwang U8 SUV and the Yangwang U9 sports car. From January to April 2025, Yangwang delivered 659 units to customers in China, down 85.2% year-over-year. The Yangwang U7 is the brand’s chance to make a comeback. Its main rivals are sedans from legacy brands such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the BMW 7 Series, and the Audi A8L.
