BYD teases Fang Cheng Bao Tai 7 SUV officially in China

The world’s biggest NEV maker, BYD, shared the first teaser image of the upcoming Fang Cheng Bao Tai 7 new energy SUV. It aims at families that love outdoor activities. The Tai 7 was previously seen in China during road tests.

The Fang Cheng Bao (FCB) is a brand under BYD that focuses on the off-road SUV segment. Its model line currently consists of two lines. The first one is called Bao. It comprises hardcore off-roaders with plug-in hybrid powertrains such as Bao 5 and Bao 8 (often called Leopard 5 and Leopard 8). The second series is Tai. It is oriented toward families. Currently, the only Tai model available in the market is the Tai 3 electric SUV. However, BYD teased the next model for the Tai lineup on June 7.

FCB Tai 7 teaser

On June 7, FCB shared a teaser image of the unnamed SUV. CarNewsChina recognized this vehicle as the Tai 7 SUV that was previously spotted during road tests. This model boasts a sturdy body shape with a flat roofline and a spare wheel on the swing-out rear door. The Tai 7 has a high bonnet line, traditional door handles, and large side-view mirrors. The interior of this family driver aligns with other FCB models.

FCB Tai 7 unofficial render image

Previously, an unofficial render image of the Fang Cheng Bao Tai 7 was shared online. An amateur designer imagined this model as an alternative to the previously launched Bao 8 SUV. It seems that the official design of the new model will be more unique.

There is no information about the specs of the FCB Tai 7 available. We assume this vehicle is a plug-in hybrid SUV since it has fuel door / charging port covers on both rear fenders. However, some BYD cars support dual-connector charging. So, there is a chance this SUV is all-electric.

The digit “7” in this model’s name hints that it will be positioned between the Bao 5 and the Bao 8 in terms of pricing. We will remind you that the FCB Bao 5 has a price range of 239,800 – 329,800 yuan (33,350 USD). And the Bao 8 is available for purchase for 379,800 – 423,800 yuan (52,830 – 58,950 USD).

So, the Tai 7 can play in the 300,000 – 350,000 yuan (41,730 – 48,680 USD) range. There is another point of view suggesting that the FCB Tai 7 will become a more city-friendly variant of the Bao 5. According to this theory, the car’s price will start below 200,000 yuan (27,820 USD). We will know which point is correct after BYD releases more information about the car.
