Xiaomi YU7 launch set for June 26 with 681 hp, targets Tesla Model Y

Xiaomi will officially launch its second electric vehicle, the YU7, on June 26, as announced on their official Weibo account. The long-anticipated SUV marks Xiaomi’s entry into the competitive mid-size electric SUV segment. It will launch alongside several new products at a major brand event, including the Xiaomi Flip2 foldable phone and the Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro tablet. The Xiaomi YU7 made its official debut on 22 May.

The Xiaomi YU7 is the first SUV under the Xiaomi EV brand and follows the launch of the SU7 electric sedan last year. Mass production is already underway at the company’s EV factory in Beijing’s Yizhuang district, with deliveries expected to begin in July. Thousands of finished units have been spotted at the plant, indicating Xiaomi’s readiness to meet demand and avoid delays similar to those that affected the SU7 launch.

Built on the Modena platform shared with the SU7, the YU7 features a fastback silhouette with a more upright roofline for improved rear headroom and practicality. Measuring approximately 4.8 meters in length, it is designed for family use with higher ground clearance and a spacious cabin. The vehicle will compete with the Tesla Model Y, among others.

Powertrain options include a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with a combined output of up to 365 kW (489 hp) in the standard version. A high-performance variant producing up to 508 kW (681 hp) has also been tested. The YU7 supports an 800V electrical architecture and is equipped with lithium-ion batteries from BYD and CATL.

Inside, the SUV shares many features with the SU7, including a 16.1-inch infotainment screen, Xiaomi’s HyperOS, and a Snapdragon 8295 processor. It will also use the Nvidia Drive Orin chip for its L2+ autonomous driving system, Xiaomi Pilot Pro, and it includes a comprehensive suite of sensors, including lidar.

The YU7 is expected to be priced from 245,900 yuan (approx. 34,100 USD), suggesting an aggressive market strategy to gain traction in the SUV segment.

Beyond the YU7, Xiaomi is also expanding its EV infrastructure. It recently acquired a 485,100 square meter industrial site in Beijing for 635 million yuan (approx. 87.5 million USD). It established a new Shanghai automotive subsidiary focusing on NEV sales, rentals, and support services.
