Update: Xiaomi announced it received 289,000 units in one hour.

Xiaomi launched the YU7 SUV in Beijing tonight, revealing the price of its highly anticipated second model. Three minutes after the launch, the YU7 sales hit 200,000 units, Xiaomi announced.

The Xiaomi YU7 starts at 253,500 yuan (approximately $35,300) for the 830 km CLTC range version. Customers can pay a refundable deposit of 5,000 yuan (700 USD), and their order will automatically lock in for seven days.

The YU7 undercuts the Tesla Model Y by 10,000 yuan (1,400 USD) as the China’s best-selling car of 2024 starts at 263,500 yuan for the RWD version.

Customers who are fast enough to pay a 20,000 yuan deposit will be able to lock in their order immediately, and their car will be delivered soon, as Xiaomi says there is a small number of “quasi-ready cars” nearly ready for delivery.

Lei Jun, Xiaomi CEO, anticipated that demand for the YU7 will be about three times higher than the company’s first model, the SU7 sedan, launched last year. In China, the sales ratio of SUVs vs sedans is about 3:1.

When SU7 was launched on March 28, 2024, it received 50,000 preorders in 27 minutes and nearly 90,000 preorders in the first 24 hours, essentially selling out the car for the rest of the year due to limited capacity at Xiaomi’s Beijing plant. From its launch (March 2024 – May 2025), SU7 delivered over 272,00 units, based on China EV DataTracker.

Xiaomi YU7 launched in three trims: Standard, Pro and Max, ranging from 253,000 – 329,900 yuan (35,300 – 46,000 USD).

The Standard has the longest range, 830 km under CLTC conditions, thanks to a 96.3 kWh LPF battery. It is a RWD vehicle with a single motor and a maximum output of 235 kW (315 hp), accompanied by a peak torque of 528 Nm. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.88 seconds. The price is 253,500 yuan.

The Pro version is AWD with dual motors. In the rear, it features the same 235 kW motor and is additionally equipped with a 130 kW motor mounted on the front axle. The combined output is 365 kW (489 hp). The model is equipped with the same 96.3 LFP battery as the Standard version, providing a range of 770 km CLTC. The price is 279,900 yuan.

The most expensive Max version is also AWD with dual motors, but its maximum output is 508 kW (681 hp) and 866 Nm peak torque (220 kW in front and 338 kW on the rear axle). It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.23 seconds. The car features a stronger 101.7 kWh NMC battery, with a range of 760 km. The price is 329,900 yuan.

Xiaomi YU7 is a 5-door 5-seater SUV built on the Modena platform. Its dimensions are 4999/1996/1608 mm (length/width/height) with a 3,000 mm wheelbase.

All trims of the YU7 ride on Xiaomi’s 800V high-voltage architecture and feature the company’s in-house developed V6S Plus motors that spin up to 22,000 RPM.

This battery supports 5.2C fast charging with a maximum charge power of 528 kW, enabling a 10–80% charge in just 12 minutes and delivering up to 620 km of range in only 15 minutes.

Xiaomi YU7 is a direct competitor to Model Y, which was Tesla’s sales stronghold in China, however, it has started to crumble in the past months. It faces over dozens of competitors, including BYD Sealion 07, Zeekr 7X, Onvo L60, and Xpeng G7. Model Y sales are down 24% in 2025 so far (Jan – May) in China compared with the same period last year.
