Chinese auto media Yiche has released its Top 20 vehicle sales chart for the first half of 2025, revealing a shift in the competitive landscape, particularly within the burgeoning new energy vehicle (NEV) segment. The data indicates a strong performance by Chinese brands, with Geely’s Geome Xingyuan model emerging as the leader.

The overall trend in the top ten positions favours new energy vehicles, encompassing both pure electric and plug-in hybrid models. Chinese domestic brands hold a majority, with eight joint-venture or foreign-branded vehicles making it into the top twenty.

With a price starting at 69,800 yuan (9,900 USD), the Geely Geome Xingyuan secured the top spot, selling 204,940 units in the first half of the year. This performance allows it to outpace rivals such as the BYD Seagull and Tesla Model Y. The Xingyue stands as the sole model on the list to exceed 200,000 units in sales.

BYD‘s Seagull maintains a robust average monthly sales volume of approximately 30,000 units, securing second place with 174,912 units sold.

The Tesla Model Y landed in third place with 171,491 units sold in the first half of 2025. Despite being third overall, it holds the title of the best-selling premium pure electric vehicle in China within the 200,000 yuan (28,000 USD) and above price segment.

The Hongguang Mini EV, a former electric vehicle sales champion, remains a formidable player in the micro-electric vehicle segment, ranking fourth with 171,064 units sold.

Fifth place was claimed by the BYD Qin Plus, with cumulative sales of 163,603 units.

From sixth to tenth place are the Xiaomi SU7, Geely Xingyue L, Song Plus, Volkswagen Lavida, and Nissan Sylphy, respectively.

Editor’s comment

In the first half of 2025, Tesla’s Model Y remains the best-selling premium pure electric vehicle in China within the 200,000 yuan (28,000 USD) and above price segment, while the sales of the Xiaomi SU7 have already come very close to it. After the second phase of Xiaomi’s factory begins operation and completes its production ramp-up, both Xiaomi SU7 and YU7 will become strong competitors to Model Y in the same price range.
