Ford unveiled the all-electric and EREV versions of the Ford Bronco in China. The new EV will be manufactured by Jiangling Motors (JMC) – Ford joint venture in Jiangxi province. It will feature lidar, a battery from BYD and 650 km CLTC range.
Ford China officially only teased af few pictures of the new electric Bronco, but thanks to homologation filings to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), which needs to approve every car before it hits the market, we learned some core specs.
The Bronco EV is a 5-seater SUV with the following dimensions: 5,025 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,815 mm in height, with a 2,950 mm wheelbase. The curb weight is 2,630 kg.
The all-electric SUV is all-wheel drive (AWD) with a 130 kW motor on the front axle and a 202 kW motor in the rear, providing a combined output of 232 kW (311 hp). The top speed is 170 km/h.
The drivetrain is powered by a 105.4 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) blade battery from BYD, good for 650 km CLTC range.
The MIIT pictures also reveal a lidar unit above the front windshield, suggesting that Ford plans to add more advanced ADAS (advanced driver-assistance systems) to the new Bronco.
The plugin-in hybrid variant, the Ford Bronco EREV (extended-range electric vehicle), will feature the same electric motor in front and a smaller 180 kW motor on the rear axle. In addition to the electric powertrain, it will feature a 1.5-litre internal combustion engine (ICE) with 110 kW of power. As it is an EREV, the ICE is not connected to the wheels and only functions as a power generator for the battery or can help electric motors.
The EREV version features a 43.7 kWh battery, capable of providing a 220 km BEV range. Combined with a 1.5L ICE, it can travel up to 1,220 km. The curb weight is 2,510 kg.
CarNewsChina expect the new EV to launch in China in Q4 of the year. Ford China didn’t comment on whether the car will launch in overseas markets later.
