Huawei’s brand Stelato unveiled powertrain specs and new images of their upcoming wagon. The large, nearly 5.2-meter-long sedan will be available in BEV and PHEV variants, with all-electric versions boasting a range of 801 km.

Stelato S9T is a wagon version of the S9 sedan, which launched in August 2024. S9 is a premium sedan which starts at 399,800 yuan (55,700 USD ) for the entry-level RWD version.

Stelato is a member of HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance), a Huawei-initiated and led alliance sharing a sales network. HIMA currently has five members, including Aito, Luxeed, Maextro, and the latest addition, Shangjie. Avatr is also mentioned, although despite Huawei’s involvement in the brand, it is not part of HIMA.

Setalot S9T is a good-looking station wagon with four doors and five seats. The dimensions are 5160/2005/1492 mm, with a pretty generous wheelbase of 3,050 mm.

Stelato S9T EV will come with a 100 kWh ternary NMC battery from CATL, providing an 801 km CLTC range.

Stelato S9T EREV will offer two battery options: a 37 kW LFP and a 53.4 kWh. Despite two battery options, Stelato advertise a single 354 km battery range option that can be extended to 1,305 km with an ICE (internal combustion engine) generator.

Both versions will also feature Huawei’s latest assisted driving software, ADS 4.0, which will receive inputs from 32 sensors, including four lidars (including Huawei’s 192-line lidar), five 4D millimetre-wave radars, 11 external cameras and 12 ultrasonic radars.

The trunk volume wasn’t revealed yet.

Stelato didn’t disclose the powertrain, but thanks to S9T homologation filings to the Chinese regulator under MIIT, we also know that.

The EV version will be available in both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) variants, while the EREV version is available only in RWD.

The EV RWD is equipped with a single motor, delivering 227 kW of peak power and a top speed of 210 km/h. The AWD option features the same 227 kW motor on the rear axle and an additional 158 kW in the front, resulting in a combined output of 385 kW (516 hp).

The EREV RWD features a 227 kW e-motor and a 118 kW ICE, which is not directly connected to the wheels and functions as a power generator.

Unlike in Europe, wagons (or Kombi, as the Germans say) were never really popular in China. But that is changing. BYD recently launched its Seal 06 DM-i wagon, Nio has its well-selling ET5T estate, Zeekr has its 007 GT wagon, and its 001 shooting brake hit 300,000 produced units this week. It seems the European automotive 90s are coming to the Middle Kingdom, and if they look as good as ST9, we are pretty happy about that.

The Stelato S9T is scheduled to launch in September, adding pressure to the Chinese premium EV market.
